Universidade Católica Portuguesa

UCP is recognized by the Portuguese State as a free, autonomous university institution of public utility.

UCP was founded in 1967 and gained official recognition in 1971.

It was the first modern Portuguese University not to be founded by the State, but is instead the result of the Concordat between the Portuguese government and the Vatican, which established the university under the tutelage of the Catholic Church.

Since its foundation, it has made a significant contribution to the development of higher education in Portugal, as recognized in the legal framework (Decree-Law 128/90) for the university, published in 1990.
Teaching at UCP - which has awarded degrees to around 44,000 students over the past 49 years - aims to combine academic excellence and education in human values.

UCP has a regional structure. Although it is just one university, it is made up of four major regional centres,  Lisboa (the headquarters), Braga, Porto and Viseu.

VASCO SOUSA COTOVIO

«A cultural base that expands to the various specializations - in my case in Journalism - and that we carry, with a justified pride, for the rest of the life.»

NATACHA SANTOS

«Studying at FCH was the best choice, not only for quality teaching and the close relationship between students and teachers, but essentially for all the opportunities I was having. The opportunity to do internships has also allowed me to gradually perceive the relationship and influence between theory and practice, making a difference in my course»

SéRGIO MARTINS

«When I first discovered FCH's Applied Foreign Languages programme, I only regretted not having discovered it before. It seemed made to me. I entered happy, I left happy and during the programme I was happy. »

JOANA COSTA

«As a student of the first three years of the degree, I had the privilege of receiving the personal support of the magnificent faculty who always made available to help us when needed.»
